 In 1619, a group of Cistercian monks travel up the ancient Salt Road and decide to erect a monastery on the ruins of a chapel built a century before their arrival.
Shelter and land to till, a place to work and pray, with the hours marked by the tolling of the bells, as the seasons follow one another in a regular cycle. Nature rules here. Over the centuries, the San Maurizio hill has demonstrated its vocation for a wide range of cultivations, from grapevines to heritage grains, medicinal herbs and spices from the nearby Mediterranean.

Over the centuries, respect has been shown for the knowing labor of the hill's first inhabitants; everything still flourishes today, and its custodians are proud to welcome us as privileged visitors.

After four years of painstaking conservative restoration, which did justice to the legacy accrued over time, the Relais San Maurizio emerged.

In 2002, the ancient monastery and aristocratic residence were combined into a single, five-star hospitality structure.

The first Relais&Châteaux in Piedmont sees the light, in a dazzling combination of the art of hospitality, peerless enogastronomy and the pursuit of wellbeing.

San Maurizio opens its doors to the world, after four centuries of history and stories, and over the next ten years, it becomes the recognized apex of the most refined hospitality, a center of culinary experimentation and, at the same time, the custodian of ancient traditions.
