Grotte di Catullo

The remains of a large Roman villa can be found inside the archaeological park, within a vast olive-grove.
The building, built between the end of the 1st century B.C. and the beginning of the 1st century A.D. in an excellent panoramic position, at the highest tip of the Sirmione peninsula, is the most important example of a high-class residence in the whole of northern Italy.
The olive-grove has around 1500 plants of traditional varieties cultivated on Lake Garda (Casaliva Gargnà, Leccino), including some secular examples. The age of the oldest is estimated to be around 400 to 500 years.
